4 Quotes:
- “Can you really buy your way to a better education?”
This quote relates to the main idea because the prompt asking to pick a side whether a better education can be bought or not. This quote is the main idea of the whole essay in a simple question. In my opinion a better education can be bought because of children being able to go to private schools vs public schools. The teachers of private schools are usually more educated vs those in a public school system, where there are more children to keep track of. The students in a private school are usually stereotyped to come from better homes also, along with higher class families, teaching them to have better manner according to most stereotypes.
- “But money alone is surely not the sole response.”
A better education doesn't only come from money, as the quote says. It can be obtained from the way the child themselves looks at school work. For example, it is said that children of doctors tend to be smarter, than those of the common job. The result of this being that seeing the success that their parents have had, it pushes them to do better and want to achieve something of that potential. However, with saying that it is not always true in every situation. Their are those kids that don't follow after their parents, no matter whether they are educated or have a regular, minimum wage job.
- “It isn't a question of what students want. It's what the school may have available.”
The quote above is a response to a mother’s question of her child not being able to skip certain classes and begin taking those that would benefit her with her college goals. This is the mother of a child that attends a public school. The public school system tends to run out of space in the beneficial classes because of the amount of students in each school. Whereas a private school has less students and the faculty are willing to help the students out because of the amount of money they pay to attend the school. Allowing a parent to use that as a factor when trying to get something from the school to benefit their child.
- “It is obvious that those who have the money, and who spend it lavishly to benefit their own kids, do not do it for no reason.”
This quote can be used as a main point through the whole essay. The quote gives a basic overview of the reason why deathly and higher class parents put their children in private schools and pay for their education. As it says in the quote, it is not for no reason, it is clearly to benefit their child and his or her future. With a better education leads to better college acceptances, later leading to the success of their life/ career. These parents have thought about their kids futures, along with all parents, but in my opinion since the parents of high class kids can do something to help push their kids to have a better future, I believe that they are truly going to do all they can to give their kids a better life. Just as any parent would do if given the opportunity.
